Your Toilet’s Not a Trash Can

I-dont-flush-156x120“Things I flush down the toilet: Number one, number two, toilet paper. That’s it. How long is your list? Because that should be it, my friend.”—Canadian comedian/actor Ennis Esmer and “I Don’t Flush” campaign supporter

As a follow up to our 9 Things to Avoid Flushing blog a few months ago, we humbly share this short video from the I Don’t Flush campaign as a reminder to us all.

Key “Leave Behinds”

(Sorry, we couldn’t resist the pun!)

  • Don’t use your toilet as a trash can
  • Flushing something even as small as dental floss can cause serious blockages in your sewer system
  • Lakes and rivers become polluted when the wrong things are flushed
  • Choose products that don’t require disposal, like washcloths instead of wipes
comment_2Waterways and plumbing systems are both valuable resources—we can’t afford to take them for granted. Will you join us in sharing the video? Let us know in the comment section below!

Good Reminder

I had to buy a new toilet last year and the guy told me that it flushes so well that it can do about 80 golf balls….why on earth they would do that to test it is beyond me but I guess that was a selling point for some people. It scared me when he first flushed it as it really does “swoosh” down really good and fast! haha

I bought a toilet that could flush several golf balls too. I can tell you why I purchased it….My son and his #2’s. He was always plugging my toilet.

Hopefully, we can convince many to stop using the wipes altogether, rather than just not flushing them!! Our travel cloths, body cloths & baby body cloths would serve them much better.

Never flush anything besides toilet paper but was unaware that dental floss was a no no.

Did not know not to flush “flushable” wipes. Great info.

This is great!! I know I’ve been guilty of tossing in a bit of paper or a wad of dog hair (I have a golden retriever) and even dental floss in the toilet. I even hate to admit that back in the day I did the wet wipes too. But no more!! I will be even more careful not to flush the little tidbits that I have been throwing in there. Thanks Amy!!

I did NOT know you can’t flush facial tissue! And I love this video. Who says being eco-aware means no fun and no lame jokes! hahaha!

After reading an article from my township on their issues with flushed wipes it made me not purchase them any more.
