Give Presence NOT Presents - Featured WinnersTitle: Making the Most of Every Opportunity

From: Laurie Jaye Friesen

Tradition: Even though we celebrate each holiday for all that it represents, we have also learned that it can not always happen on that exact date marked on the calendar. So we have learned to make the most of every opportunity. One example was this year towards the end of September our son came home to visit before being deployed to the middle east. As we planned out our menu Douglas said we had a turkey in the freezer (and then contemplating our son’s favorite), I said, “Hey if we throw in a Pumpkin Pie we can have a simple but early Thanksgiving!” Before we knew it we had several of the family favorites lined up and more of kids made the journey to join in!
Cherish the Moments … whenever they come!!!!!

Give Presence NOT Presents - Featured WinnersTitle: Aquia Harbour Family and Neighbors

From: Stephanie Turner

Tradition: Every year we gather family and friends to make Gingerbread houses. We bake all the gingerbread house pieces and gather all the candy and make all the icing. Then our family and friends bring food to share for the party! We build gingerbread houses and eat lots of “good” food and lots of candy – sometimes more gets in our tummies than on the houses. We then drive up to a near by hospital and donate the houses to the children’s cancer ward. They aren’t allowed to eat them – but they enjoy talking to our kids about making them and seeing them placed in the ward for the season.

Give Presence NOT Presents - Featured WinnersTitle: Fun with Santa

From: Victoria Mcnamara

Tradition: Every year we find Santa Claus somewhere to sit on his lap and “see Santa”, and I have yet to have a picture where one or both of my kids are crying. Always the best pictures though!

Love the presence emphasize rather on presents! Christmas truly is about fellowship with each other and focus on our Savior. My very large family gets together once every year for a combo celebration of Thanksgiving and Christmas — dubbed “Christgiving” or “Thanksmas.” We enjoy the traditional holiday food and do a food and/or to drive for those in need.

How fun!! We have a tradition of driving to Hillcrest Farms to ride the steam powered miniature train around the Christmas tree farm, before cutting down our own tree!
