What’s Lurking in Your Dryer Vent?

Keep It Clean to Keep It Safe!

Not properly maintaining your dryer can cause it to overheat and catch on fire. Every year, 15,000 dryer fires in the U.S. alone needlessly damage homes and, in the worst cases, end lives.

Just how combustible is lint? Watch this NBC News video to find out!

NBC News: Dryer Vent Cleaning A Must!

  • Never leave your home when the dryer is running.
  • Never run your dryer before going to bed.
  • Clean your dryer’s lint filter before or after every load.
  • Avoid using dryer sheets that contain harmful chemicals.
  • Replace flexible hosing with a solid metal hose.
  • Have your hose or duct and vent cleaned every year. Here’s a quick way to get your vent clean using a leaf blower from www.houseinvestigations.com.
  • Never put flammable material into your dryer.
  • If smoke is coming from your dryer, get everyone out of the house and call the fire department. Do not try to put the fire out yourself.

I’m a person who believes in recycling. Keeping my community clean. I am not ashamed to pick garbage & bottles out off ditches. I keep up with cleaning gutter, dryer vents, chimney Norwex is a big part of my everyday cleaning. All part off spring cleaning as well.

I’ve found that the Norwex envirowand is a great tool for getting down in your dryer vent where the lint filter is housed. It’s amazing the amount of lint that doesn’t get caught in the filter!

Great idea Dianne. After I cleaned out the vent I sent the Envirowand through to give it a good finish!

I save all my dryer lint for fire starters. it’s HIGHLY flammable so it lights easily and burns a little slower than paper. Great for backyard bon fires or camping trips.

I have not had the lint cleaned out of my dryer hose, but will definitely look into getting it done this season.

Thanks for this great information to share with my friends & family! I clean the lint screen at the end of each laundry day, but this was a great reminder to check out the vent as well!

I use my Envirowand to get in the area where the lint trap is (I take out the lint trap) as it works so well to grab up the lint that doesn’t end up on the trap.

As someone who cleans out dryer vents for a living, it is crazy how much lint build up people have in their vent. People, please get your dryer vent cleaned to keep you, your family, and even close neighbors safe! Awesome share, thanks!
