World Environment Day: The Norwex Duck Release

World Environment Day is celebrated every year on June 5th to help bring awareness and action to the environment. This year, Norwex employees are doing their part to improve the environment right here at our home office.

It’s not unusual to see some small critters outside the office. The building backs up to a park with beautiful greenery and a small pond inhabited by birds, fish, turtles, and other wildlife. However, one day this past April, a Norwex employee happened to notice a duck sitting for several hours in the parking lot median. Thinking that this was a strange place for a duck to sit, she decided to go check on it. As she walked towards the duck, she heard tiny “peeps” coming from the area and looked down to discover that the duck had several babies who were trapped in a pipe.

She quickly sprang into action, doing everything possible to free the ducklings. With a little creativity and some help from animal control, two of the ducklings survived. After realizing that the mama duck had flown away in fear and left her babies behind, the ducklings were taken home and nourished to health by the caring employee until they were old enough to be released back into the pond.

In honor of World Environment Day, Norwex employees gathered to release the ducks and enjoy a waste free picnic, as we watched them adjust to their new home. Whether it’s turning your home into a safe haven or caring for baby ducks, each small step we take to protect the environment has a major impact around the globe.
