Have you ever been confused (as I have) by the terms “degradable,” “biodegradable” or “compostable” when it comes to various types of plastic in which products are packaged?
Here’s a quick video from 1 Million Women that helps explain these terms relating to eco-plastic in a concise, memorable way.
Are Degradable, Biodegradable And Compostable Plastics Good Fo…
Not all ‘eco’ plastics are created equal. 🤔

As innovations in plastic continue to be developed I look forward to seeing all the Earth-friendly packaging ideas sure to follow, which will ultimately help solve the problem of plastic that lingers long after its usefulness has ended.
As Chief Marketing Officer of Norwex, I am extremely proud to help lead a company that is able to make the following statements about our packaging:
Resources:
Why are so many plastics not recyclable now? The “blister” plastics that So many food products and take home products from restaurants are packaged in are not being accepted by our recycle companies. Someone needs to find a better solution. I love Norwex plastics for being recyclable, but wish we could get more products as refills. We don’t need a UPP scoop or nozzles and caps every time we purchase an enzyme product. Can’t we just get a refill size that we can refill our existing bottles with like we do with the soap dispensers? I think that would be a great help. Thanks for considering this.
Dianne, we agree: The fact that so many kinds of plastics are not recyclable is a big problem in our world today. Thankfully, good work is being done, and hopefully one day we can begin to see a decrease in the amount of plastic that enters our environment. And thank you for your recommendation regarding refills. We will take it into consideration.
I have and I don’t understand why some companies , especially ones that sell organic food, don’t use recyclable containers? Let’s make it ‘full circle’!!
I am very proud of our company for all the hard work the team does in developing green products, packing and solutions. But, I’m with Dianne!! Since our sprayers and nozzles aren’t recyclable for our consumable products, maybe we can start marketing them as add an on in the back office, so we can encourage people to reuse the original ones. The same with the UPP scoops. I would also prefer refill sizes too. Thanks so much for all you do already, and thanks for taking our suggestions to heart!!
I’ve been sewing myself some bags for the grocery store so that I won’t use plastic ones. I often tell the check out person that I made my bags and they think I’m pretty talented 🙂 I just bought myself one of Norwex’s shopping tote bag, so I’m looking forward to answering questions people might ask me about the Norwex Movement!
Why not use the Norwex produce bags?
Hi I do use the produce bags. The cloth one I am referring to is my tote for taking it all home!
We will always buy items (especially food) from bulk bins if possible to reduce the amount of packaging. Plastics are so hard, because even if they are technically “recyclable” they aren’t always accepted by local recycling companies. I know great ideas are out there. We all need to advocate in our own ways to reduce the perceived need for those single-use plastics–what consumers say and do makes a difference!
It sure does, Tanya! We can all make a difference when we speak up and take action!
Yes, the 1 St the granulated laundry soap. When I saw the package was said I will buy this just so to eliminate the plastic jug. Now I use the liquid and love it even more.
I am concus of plastic in my daily life and o still CREEPS in
This was very helpful! I starting buying reusable containers for a lot of things before I knew about plastic lasting for such a long time. I’m thankful I have great reasons to continue that habit and share it with others!
Here in the UK there seems to have been a wake up call to the plastics problem that we’ve (Norwex UK) been talking about for the last 2 years (since Norwex arrived in the UK). It’s taken the Chinese to turn away all our recycling waste for people to realise what a huge problem we have. Personally I think we will look back and see this, and Blue Planet 2, as a turning point for innovation and imagination. I so hope so – and exciting times for Norwex with their own innovative use of recycled plastic in some of their cloths.
One of the first things I noticed right off the bat, when I received my order from my then consultant & now my Up line, was that it was delivered to me in a biodegradable plastic bag, the mop head was delivered not in a plastic bag but a thin almost material like substance, the packaging on the enviro cloth/ window cloth was also made of recycled materials. I know this sounds weird, but I got really excited & felt “GOOD” about my purchase from Norwex. ~ Thank you for being a company that I am proud to represent. I believe in the Norwex Experience & I hope that one day EVERYONE will be on board with “taking care to notice” how we can change our ways for the better of our PEOPLE’S & OUR ENVIRONMENT.
